What has a horsebox got to do with Liege waffles?
Well to be completely honest absolutely nothing at all, but they are delicious, we love them and feel they make Winnie unique.
Winnie is simply a little bit of fun, but the Waffles definitely are not! Once you have tasted an authentic Belgian Liege Waffle you will find them impossible to resist. Liege Waffles are made with a yeast dough which contains small lumps of pearl sugar. When well risen and proved, the dough is placed onto a very hot iron and cooked for 4 minutes, then left to cool where they magically take on the texture of brioche but with a sugary crunch when you take a bite. The great thing about them is they are just as delicious “naked” or served with local Vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, a sprinkle of your favourite sweet and topped off with a generous drizzle of sauce. Voila, you have yourself a delightfully delicious desert.
Sticking with the 1970s/1980s theme that runs through Winnie we decided to name our waffles after 80s children’s TV Shows. Again very random and no link to waffles we just thought it was more memorable and funnier when you have customers asking for a “Bananaman” or “The Flumps”.
Currently we have been serving 5 main waffle toppings along with a scoop of delicious Callestick Clotted Cream Vanilla ice cream and a generous dollop of whipped cream. We plan to introduce more toppings at each event including Nutella (delicious with bananas), Pure Canadian Maple Syrup and Spiced Bramley Apple with Salted Caramel.
